Metal rules. If you like old Neurosis, you will like this. If you like to dance to harcore, ditto. The Hundred Years War are no more. They played outside of Arkansas only 2 or 3 times. Chip played guitar and sings for the band. He used to be in Full Service Quartet and Generation of Vipers and he currently hails from Philadelphia, where he plays with the Body (yes, that is a band). Clay played guitar, lead I suppose. He used to play in William Martyr 17, and he currently plays in Shake Ray Turbine, though you would not know it. Interstate bands are hard, believe me I know, and I only had to drive one state over. Clay also played in Modular with Jason. Jason played drums and apparetly likes to spend time in Kansas City. He now plays with Tyco. Adam played bass and does those awesome second vocals on the last song. The record was recorded at Progressive Studios in January of 1998 and mastered by the illustrious John Golden. No colored vinyl on this one, but it is on 180 gram vinyl, which is really damn thick, and actually related to quality, as opposed to pretty colors, so try not to whine. The only song not available on the record is "Empty Socket," which will be appearing on the "Working Sucks" compilation scheduled to appear sometime on Old Glory Records. Besides having one of the best names for an album I have ever heard, Waifle just kicks ass. They sound like a very heart-fealt and slightly more "rockin" Frail. They are from Virginia and they have been around for a while. This album is available on CD format from the Magic Bullet Records, which is run by Brent from Waifle. They may be touring more often nowadays, but they have a slew of projects going on all the time, so keep a look out for those. Waifle was Brent, Mark, Brian, and Chris at the time the album was recorded at Lets Rain Studios in Arlington in June of 1998 It was mastered for vinyl at John Golden Mastering. Suprise, suprise, no colored vinyl on this one either. Getting a pattern yet? The packaging is pretty nifty if I do say so myself. 28 by 12 chipboard scored into three panels, all screen printed. A vellum strip surrounds the chipboard when folded and is held together by a hand numbered (of 1000) vinyl sticker. Huge full-size booklet with words from Kent McClard from Ebullition and Christine from Slug N Lettuce (oh yeah, and me.) If you would like to learn more about them you should go to the Magic Bullet Records website or the Waifle website or just write them at waifle@hotmail.com. 1000 pressed.

The pAper chAse are .... well ... your guess is as good as mine. They are very discordant, yet melodius. They play disjointed indie rock, emphasis on the rock. Vocals sound a lot like Frail. All I know is that they have some of the weirdest shit I have ever heard and I like it. They are from Dallas and they hopefully tour quite a bit nowadays. They did a 3-way split CD before this. Now, they have a full length and another EP out. All the releases sound different and all of them kick ass. This was recorded at Crystal Clear Studios in Dallas and mastered by John Golden. You can learn more about them at the pAper chAse website or just write them at info@thepaperchaseband.com. 1000 pressed.

Shut The Fuck Up kicked ass. That is really all there is to say. They are a healthy mix of humour, conscience, and all the other things that make powerviolence great. I am not going to stoop to the level of comparing these guys to anyone, because they really were unique in content and form. But I will just say they played short heartfelt vingettes with two basses and a set of drums. The songs were simple and the screams were horse. David and Alan played bass and David sang alot while Alan sang a little and Robert played drums. You can now see two-thirds of the band as Shere Kahn here and there betweeen Arkansas and Portland. It was recorded at the Listen Laboratory and mastered by John Golden. You can contact them at elsparko@hotmail.com. 500 pressed.

Damn. This is so fucking different, you would not believe it. Honestly, if the old Waifle sounded like Frail, it could only suffice to describe this as "not Frail." Pure metal is more like it. This record is heavy as Hell. It still retains a lot of the melody that the old Waifle had, though. All the songs are good (and fun to play too!). This was recorded at Salad Days with Brian McTeernan of days of yore and mastered by John Golden. The CD is available from Magic Bullet. 1000 pressed.

Usurp are no more. Rep Seki, well, it is kind of here and not here. Both bands play lightning quick, crazy, chaotic, metal-based, screamo type stuff. Rep Seki adds a horn. Usurp stick to the basics a bit more, but they are still really inventive. They were pretty damn popular too, so you have probably already heard them. I do not know where this was recorded exactly, but I know Mike from Rep Seki did it. It is a picture disc!!!!! 1000 pressed.

Hollowed Out were from Tulsa. They broke up a bit ago, though two of the members are in Sunset Beach. They played speedy crusty metal and covered Sepultura on occassion. Ignore the choice of font on the front cover. Recorded by Martin Halstead (try to remember to say that with a British accent) of N.O.T.A. fame. 500 pressed.

Sunset Beach are a very different band. In some ways, they are basiacally rock with various punk bits thrown in. Or something like that. But they defintely rock and now they feature tiki toches and fire breathing!!!! (No fire included in record) The Moss are extremely heavy metal / grindcore with various cinematic, instrumental, and eclectic elements thrown in. Their music is very full and yet still retains a "jam" feel to it. More than that, all the guys in these bands are good people. That is enough for me, nowadays. They are both from Tulsa. they should be touring off and on, often together, in the near future. The covers are thin chipboard with screen printing on the Moss side and hand glued construction paper designs on the S.B. side. Little booklet, too. 550 pressed.

Split LP between damezumari from tulsa, OK and Fire Team Charlie from Houston, TX. I'm really not qualified to review this. But, damezumari plays a weird mix of emo screamo and other shit. Fire Team Charlie plays rocking screamo. Fuck if I know mang.
